- Sankofa, the fabled African bird, reminds us of the necessity to continue to reach back into familiar ancient traditions to reclaim
those important elements that nourish and open us to other ways to connect and refresh our bodies, minds and spirits for the
work we do. This is an invitation to draw from the practice of recreational drumming that touches on self-care, collaboration,
prayer, and individual and group affirmation. It provides new skills we can incorporate into many ministry settings. Participants
should bring along their own drum, wind instrument, or percussion instrument if they have one. Drums will be provided for those
who are unable to provide their own instrument.

aspects of interaction with participants, will be demonstrated through the use of interventions developed and adapted to the
pediatric setting, but may be applied in all settings. Using literature from interpersonal neurobiology, theology, and play
