Conference : 14th International Headache Congress
Speaker(s) :
|
Download Format(s) : SAV,MP3 |
|

|
|
- Co-Chairs: R. Allan Purdy, MD; Krishnamurthy Ravishankar, MD
|
- Using a case-based approach and interactive learning techniques, the attendee,
at the end of this course, should have a better cognitive approach to challenging
and interesting headache cases. This should allow the attendee to better utilize
diagnostic and management strategies in the management of such cases and form
the basis of learning how to care for such patients in their practices.

- The attendee, at the end of this course, should have a better understanding of
the biological and psychological factors that influence the presentation, impact, and
potential progression of adolescent migraine. This understanding should provide
the attendee with a foundation to approach some of the unique aspects of adolescent
headaches, apply effective diagnostic and management strategies to improve the
outcome of adolescent headaches, and prevent progression and lifelong disability.

|
- Experimental human models of migraine have been used to understand the basic
mechanisms of migraine with great success. Following this course, participants will
understand more of the role of signalling molecules like NO, CGRP, PACAP and
prostanoids in migraine. They will also understand how models can be used to study
the role of genes and to discover neuroimaging changes in migraine.

- Key findings from pre-clinical as well as clinical studies will be presented so that the
attendee, at the end of this course, will have a better understanding of the cellular
mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of primary and secondary headache
disorders. In addition, a review of pre-clinical and clinical pharmacology studies will
be presented so that the attendee will have current knowledge of where and how the
primary drugs used to treat headache disorders are thought to function.
