C09 Oral Surgery 1: Making "Surgical" Extractions Easier and Faster
Recommended for Doctors, Assistants
Conference : The 144th Chicago Dental Society Midwinter Meeting 2009
Speaker(s) : Karl R. Koerner, DDS, MS
|
Download Format(s) : MP3 |
|

|
|
- Karl Koerner, DDS, MS, Draper, UT; Head, Department of Oral Surgery, Scottsdale Center for Dental Education
|
- Extractions are a mainstay of general practice yet
dental school doesnt adequately prepare you to
handle unexpected difficulties and complications
that inevitably arise. This presentation helps bridge that gap. It
covers many techniques and instruments reserved for an oral
surgery residency. In this era of more esthetic pontics and
immediate implant placement, attention is paid to atraumatic
extractions, not just doing it quickly at the expense of bone. Dr.
Karl Koerner also teaches socket bone grafting reviewing what
works and what doesnt from his own personal experience over
many years. He will also talk about managing potential bleeding
problems with patients on aspirin, Coumadin, and Plavix.

- Fixed prosthodontic procedures comprise about
one-third of the revenue in a typical general
practice. About one-half of the procedures in fixed
prosthodontics can be legally delegated to staff. Bring your
clinical staff members to this program, and then the team will
significantly increase productivity and clinical quality. The
presentation includes the materials, devices, concepts, and
techniques in fixed prosthodontics and suggests those areas that
can be accomplished as a team or alone by supervised staff.

Dr. Koerner will show you how it's not a long stretch to implant placement. He covers using socket bone grafting as an easy method to treat inadvertent sinus perforations. These procedures will round out your knowledge base giving you confidence to do more minor oral surgery in general practice.
