Opening Keynote - An Emerging Professional Role for Laboratorians
Conference : 81st Annual Meeting
Speaker(s) :
|
Download Format(s) : MP3,VIDEO |
|

|
|
- Brian Jackson, MD, MS, FCAP
Medical Director of Informatics
ARUP Laboratories
Department of Pathology, University of Utah
|
- The diagnostic needs of primary care doctors and what labs might
do to support them are essential to the appropriate care of patients
and assuring patient safety. It is a little different focus than the usual
within-lab quality management that we laboratory professionals are
used to; the efforts should support getting the right test for the right
patient which has safety implications. This will fit nicely with the need
for clinical medicine to take better advantage of laboratory professionals
knowledge, and the need for all of us as laboratory professionals to
extend beyond the walls of the lab.

- The mechanism of action of several commonly used non-targeted antileukemic
drugs (chemotherapy) will be discussed. In addition, the
mechanism of action of a few targeted leukemia therapies will also be
discussed and contrasted with the non-targeted therapies. Therapeutic
sequeleae will be presented and linked to the drugs mechanism of
action.
