She is also adjunct associate professor at San Diego State University School of Nursing. She conducts federally funded research on the benefits of mantram repetition. - Laura Mosby LCSW and Kevin Dahill
|
- As chaplains we are called to envision new ways to partner with the leaders of our organizations and to advocate for the diverse populations we serve. This plenary session features two top health care administrators: Laura Mosby LCSW, director of organizational integrity for Suncoast Hospice, Clearwater, FL; and Kevin Dahill, president and CEO of the Suburban Hospital Alliance, Long Island, NY. They will share their experiences of successful collaborations with chaplaincy and provide insight into management trends and mission goals. Their wisdom will enable us to articulate new ways to contribute to the mission of our organizations, to boldly share the value of our professional expertise, and to learn to communicate more effectively with administration for the good of the "soul" of the organizations we serve.

- Seismic shifts in the way health care is and will be delivered in the Western world are occurring in response to financial and demographic challenges. Peoples understanding and expression of their spirituality is changing. Traditional chaplaincy models of acute one-to-one crisis intervention in institutional settings may no longer be fit for purpose as the dominant approach to promote spiritual wellbeing. Ewan Kelly will share the strategic response of Scottish health care chaplains to such challenges and opportunities, with the aim of stimulating creative and innovative thinking among participants as to how chaplaincy may develop and maximize its impact in their context.
Ewan Kelly is a former junior doctor who has spent most of his working life as a health care chaplain and a university teacher. Kellys experience includes chaplaincy in two large acute-care hospitals and a hospice in Scotland. Currently, he works with NHS Education for Scotland on the strategic development of spiritual care and health care chaplaincy in NHS Scotland. NHS Scotland, the Scottish National Health Service, is the country's publicly funded health care system. In addition, Kelly has part-time positions as a senior lecturer teaching pastoral theology at the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow. He is the author of Marking Short Lives (Peter Lang 2007), Meaningful Funerals (Mowbray 2008) and Personhood and Presence (T&T Clark 2012) and the co-author of Spiritual Care in Healthcare: Reflections on Practice (Radcliffe 2011), which was highly commended in the Basis of Medicine category at the annual British Medical Association Book Awards 2012.
