  • Health Care Reform in 2010 brought with it national legislation designed to provide greater nutrition information to consumers and a uniform approach to menu labeling. Cities and locales launched multiple initiatives to mandate posting of calories and a plethora of other nutrient information on boards in chain restaurants. The National Restaurant Association led the way for a national approach to menu labeling, effectively pre-empting the city, state and local mandates. FDA is now drafting regulatory language to require calorie labeling on menu boards and the availability of nutrition information in all national restaurant chains with over 20 units.
