Farhad R. Alavi
Biography
Farhad R. Alavi is an Associate in the International and Cross-
Border Transactions Group. His commercial transactional work
includes advising clients on matters pertaining to international sales,
joint venture, and corporate law.
Recent and current activities include:
• advising U.S. and third country companies on establishing
operations in the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi
and Ras Al Khaimah), China, and Greece
• advising a large Middle Eastern hospitality chain on
structuring its pilot venture into the United States market
• Advising a public U.S. medical equipment manufacturer on
agency and/or distributorship matters in Bahrain, Lebanon,
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
• due diligence for a Japanese client on entities in North
America, the Caribbean and Africa
• an exclusive supply agreement between a U.S. wholesaler and
a Chinese manufacturer
• advising a large Latin American-controlled group holding and
managing residential properties in the United States on a
major joint venture and reorganization
• assisting in drafting agreements as part of a multimillion
dollar purchase of Spanish-language television channels in
the United States by Caracol S.A., part of Valorem Group,
one of the largest corporate entities in Colombia
Within international trade, Mr. Alavi's practice includes preparing
applications for export licenses and classification requests by the
United States Department of Commerce, Bureau of Industry and
Security (BIS), as well as advising on matters relating to the Office
of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, the Foreign Corrupt
Practices Act (FCPA) and US Anti-Boycott policies.
Mr. Alavi's practice also includes shipping, maritime and energy law.
His professional interests also include project and Islamic finance.
