  • For many reasons, students with ADHD, learning differences and social learning challenges often don’t like taking risks. This workshop will explore those reasons and present numerous activities, games, and media, easily incorporated into therapy, to help students feel more competent and capable. Learn how to approach students who so often feel defeated and incapable by “front-loading” before and “guided review” after experimenting with taking risks. Get ready to take some risks during small group activities!

  • The impact of ADHD on adults often includes significant struggle in their primary relationship. Poor communication between partners is generated by, among other things, a series of behaviors in both partners that are encouraged by the presence of adult ADHD. Yet respectful and healthy relationships depend upon developing specific conflict, negotiation and communication skills. This presentation will briefly review the critical communication barriers couples impacted by ADHD commonly face, then provide an overview of the clinical research around good communication skills for couples impacted by ADHD and, finally, describe strategies couples can use to dramatically improve their interactions. Handouts and resources will be provided so participants can practice the skills discussed.

  • Decision making can be challenging for young adults with ADHD, let alone a decision as complex as “What do I do with my life?” Students often correlate their major choice with their ultimate career/life choice. This makes the major decision a high-stakes one for students with ADHD, whose challenges in emotional regulation and executive functioning allow for greater difficulties navigating complex choices. About 80 percent of students in the United States end up changing their major at least once, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. What is the norm for many students can become high-risk for students with ADHD, many of whom are struggling with co-existing anxiety issues that directly impact their ability to make decisions. Join us as we discuss theoretical and practical approaches for guiding ADHD college students in planning for the future and creating strong transitions from college to careers.
