  • Randy Kulman, Ph.D.; Gary Stoner, PhD
  • This presentation will examine the current research on video-game and technology use amongst children with ADHD and explore realistic strategies for maximizing the benefits of digital media for these children. We will discuss the most recent research about how much children with ADHD play video games, how well they perform on games and apps, how effectively they learn from digital media, and the negative implications of video-game and technology involvement. The presentation will review research that explores how technologies can improve working memory, selective attention, executive functions, and processing speed. We will also examine the research data that relate excessive video-game play to inattention, poor academic performance, boredom, and impulsivity. The presentation will then provide a set of practical approaches for parents, educators, and clinicians about the role of technology in the lives of children with ADHD. We will address the use of specific games and apps, including Minecraft, Call of Duty, Evernote, and Dragon Dictation.
  • LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. Describe the positive and negative impact of apps, games, and digital media on children with ADHD 2. Analyze and select the technologies that can improve working memory, selective attention, executive functions, and processing speed 3.
