  • I understand that ADHD can be understood as a dimension of behavior, characterized at one end by extraversion, innovation, risk taking, high energy, etc. We all have our place on this dimension. As I described in my book, The Agent, I am extraverted and very energetic, and my career has been marked by innovation and risky decisions in “making deals and changing the game”. These characteristics have influence my professional life, by endowing me with some strengths that contributed to my successes as an Agent, as well as some weaknesses that contributed to some of my failures; and they have influenced my personal life, by bringing some risks that misdirected me, as well as resilience that allowed me to redirect my life. As an Agent, I must understand my clients to serve them well. I can place others on this underlying dimension of ADHD, and better understand how to advise my clients who are in very competitive environments to anticipate professional and personal challenges that we all must face in life. I will give some examples of how my strengths and weaknesses, as well as my resilience, have shaped my experiences during my 40 years as an Agent

  • The various demands of college life, academic and otherwise, present a unique challenge to students with ADHD. In fact, many students may first realize that they have ADHD when their longstanding issues related to poor time management, disorganization, and procrastination now create significant problems for them. This session will focus on some of the essential ways to manage college life, with a focus on tactics designed to increase the consistent implementation of effective coping strategies. It will draw from several chapters in The Adult ADHD Tool Kit, a book authored by the presenters that is designed to help people turn intentions into actions. Special emphasis will be placed on addressing issues like excessive use of social media and internet, underestimation of sleep need, risks of recreational drinking and substance use, and poor time management, as well as utilizing other supportive and treatment services.
