  • Change Strategies Used in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for Adult ADHD: About 4% of the adult population has Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). While medications are the most effective single treatment, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is an efficacious psychosocial treatment for this population. This workshop is designed to review specific change strategies used in CBT for adult ADHD.
  • Change Strategies Used in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for Adult ADHD: 1. Prepare specific therapy goals with their adult patients with ADHD. 2. Recognize intervention strategies used to address procrastination, disorganization, and time management problems commonly reported by adults with ADHD. 3. Identify the common distorted thoughts reported by adults with ADHD and how they undermine coping efforts in these patients. 4. Identifying and addressing common motivational issues encountered in counseling adults with ADHD. 5. Describe strategies with which to help adults with ADHD to better implement effective coping strategies.

  • Work, Discipline & Anti-Bullying Protections and the Law: This workshop will address state and federal laws which assist and protect individuals with disabilities in school and in the workplace. Student discipline rights and procedures and anti-bullying measures will be discussed, as well as labor and employment laws which protect individuals with disabilities in the work place, including the right to reasonable accommodations and a harassment free workplace.
  • Work, Discipline and Anti-Bullying Protections and the Law: 1. Participants will be able to identify situations where their childís rights under the IDEA Discipline Procedures have been violated. 2. Participants will be able to advocate for their childís rights to services during suspensions, Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAís) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPís). 3. Participants will be familiar with the school districtís responsibility to establish anti-bullying procedures and be able to identify and advocate for change when those responsibilities are not being met. 4. Participants will know and be able to advocate for their rights and fulfill their responsibilities for workplace accommodations under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). 5. Participants will know what remedies are available and when to pursue them if they are subject to a hostile work environment.

Master of Ceremonies: Kevin Roberts, M.A. Larger than Life with Matt Morgan: Matt Morgan, TNA Wrestling television star, shares his story of struggling with ADD as a child, and his success today in the wrestling ring, in television and in life through the help of his family and teachers. Learn and receive continuing education credits with Sam Goldstein, Ph.D., who will present, "A Good Day is When Bad Things Don't Happen - Revisited. " Growing up with the disabling burden of ADHD uniquely and differently shapes the thoughts, feelings, ideas and ultimately mindset of children with the condition. Dr. Goldstein will examine how the well meant efforts of care providers often fall short of helping children with ADHD develop a resilient mindset. He will examine the unfortunate components of the mindset many children with ADHD develop, explain how the symptoms of ADHD foster and fuel this mindset and explain the often long-term negative outcome that results into the adult years. Children's stories and drawings as well as video taped comments will be presented. Dr. Goldstein will offer a set of guidelines to help parent and professional care givers foster a resilient mindset in children with ADHD by developing a strength based model and assisting children to feel good about things.

  • Quick Tips for Teachers: Preventing Problematic Behavior in the Classroom: Children with ADHD commonly display difficult and often disruptive behavior at school. Behavioral modification strategies can significantly diminish the likelihood of such behavior and improve the educational performance of children with ADHD. This session will provide educators with effective proactive strategies that can prevent problematic behavior and help children with ADHD be successful in the classroom.
  • Quick Tips for Teachers: Preventing Problematic Behavior in the Classroom: 1. Educators will be provided with examples of comorbid conditions and problematic behaviors commonly seen in children with ADHD. 2. A number of variables often contribute to the onset of disruptive behaviors. A discussion of setting events and common pitfalls that are associated with disruptive behaviors will be presented. 3. The use of precision commands has been demonstrated as an effective intervention at increasing compliance rates among children in a classroom setting. Educators will learn how to effectively use precision commands and how to overcome common side effects that may occur with this intervention. 4. The use of positive reinforcement, cue and prompts can decrease the onset of disruptive behavior at school. Educators will be shown specific examples and ways to use such positive interventions so as to help increase pro-social behavior at school. 5. Developing a positive relationship with children is critical for preventing disruptive behavior. Educators will be shown specific strategies as to how to build and maintain resilient relationships with students so as to help foster a positive classroom environment.
