After a preview of all 3 sessions of “The Digital Patient Consultations,” this presentation will examine the key principles of digital photography, including camera hardware, image software and digital capture technique. The capture technique will be explained in detail. With on-screen images, the new technique is capturing images that insures perfect exposure, full tonal range, perfect color, accurate sharpness and a huge depth of field -- the five dimensions of image quality. The digital histogram is the single most important principle in digital photography.

  • Approximately 30,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed each year in the United States. One-third of those patients will eventually die of their disease. Long-term survival of oral cancer patient is directly proportional to early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. The detection of oral cancer and its precursors in the dental office results in significantly increased long-term survival. Dental professionals are also intimately involved with the management of oral complications from both oral cancer and therapy.
  • This course is designed to provide dentists, dental hygienists, and assistants with information on various aspects of oral cancer and related premalignant disease, emphasizing clinical recognition of premalignant and malignant lesions and indications for diagnostic procedures.

Dr. Strong will review the advantages and disadvantages of bar vs. attachment-only systems using implants. The economics of these approaches will be compared along with clinical effectiveness. Because some patients cannot or will not use implants, conventional denture techniques are presented to complement your growing implant practice.

Is metronidazole the next drug of choice if amoxicillin doesn't work for a periapical infection? Can aphthous ulcers be effectively controlled with the new over-the-counter dental products? Are the newest anti-gingivitis and anti-hypersensitivity products really clinically effective and should the patient switch to them? Do they put ginkgo biloba in the new natural toothpastes so patients will remember to brush their teeth?
