Stanley C. Abraham, Ph.D. Biography Dr. Stan Abraham is Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the College of Business Administration, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and President of his own consulting firm, Future By Design, Santa Monica, CA. His second book, Strategic Planning: A Practical Guide for Competitive Success, with CD-ROM, Thomson South-Western, 2006 has been widely adopted. He has served on the prestigious journal Strategy & Leadership's Board of Contributing Editors since January 2002, joining a cadre of top strategists from around the world, and has published many articles in that journal, among them, every ASP conference since the first in 2001 (read them on ASP's website, www.strategyplus.org). Stan has been conducting one- to five-day workshops and seminars on strategic planning and general management for senior managers in the U.S., Mexico, and Colombia (the last two with simultaneous translation) since 1994 with excellent evaluations. He is an accomplished presenter and has given presentations before professional audiences for over 20 years on a variety of management topics. He involves his audiences, who tell him that he has a gift for clarifying complex concepts and making them come alive. Stan has been a management consultant for almost 40 years, founding Future By Design in 1983, and specializes in strategic planning and implementation (organizational change) for established organizations, and writing or evaluating business plans for startup and emerging companies. One of his clients, the Computer Information Systems Dept. at Cal Poly Pomona, won the Association for Strategic Planning's Excellence in Strategic Planning Award in October 2003. See www.futurebydesign.biz. Along with other former presidents of the Southern California Planning Forum (including David Crain), Stan co-founded The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) in 1999. He served on its Board of Directors for its first seven years, organized its first annual conference in October 2001, New Strategies for a Rapidly Changing World, and served as President in 2003-04. He received the Association's Distinguished Service Award in February 2007. Before coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Stan was Associate Professor of Strategy at Pepperdine University's School of Business and Management and chair of its Management Department, a Senior Policy Researcher at The Rand Corporation, Santa Monica, CA, and a Member of the Technical Staff at General Research Corp., Santa Barbara, CA. Before that, he was a research project engineer with Atomic Energy of Canada, Limited, publishing four research reports and receiving two patents. Stan holds a Ph.D. from UCLA's Anderson School of Management (now UCLA Anderson), an SM from MIT's Sloan School of Management (now MIT Sloan), and a B.Sc.(Eng.) in ME from the University of London, England. Greg Bruce Biography Greg Bruce is Strategy and Planning Manager for Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) — the software, services and IT division of Schlumberger the global oilfield services company. He has worked for over 12 years in the oil and gas industry. His professional experiences including work on remote oil drilling rigs, business operations management, software and consulting services sales, product marketing management, and most recently long-range strategic planning. In his current Strategy and Planning role, Greg and his team provide guidance and mentorship to the global operations and technology business segments of SIS toward the creation of effective three-year business plans and strategy maps. This role has required working with SIS senior management to create and update an evergreen multiyear corporate strategy that is communicated to the global field and technology matrix organization through a series of facilitated and structured "alignment crosschecks." David W. Crain, Ph.D. Biography David Crain has more than 25 years' experience managing the marketing, strategy, and engineering functions in a corporate setting. Over his career, he served as Director of Markets and Strategies for two Fortune 500 companies: Fluor Corporation and Sempra Energy where he developed his expertise in B2B marketing. While at Fluor, David managed a staff of six MBA market researchers analyzing the marketplace, competitors, partners, merger-and-acquisition targets, and related economic, business and geo-political conditions. He advised Fluor on strategy issues such as branding, mission/vision formulation, market research and segmentation, geographical positioning, and marketing strategies. In earlier professional activities, David served with the United States Naval Research Center in San Diego where he was responsible for development of microelectronics for anti-submarine warfare systems. It was there, while working on undersea television exploration technology, that he conceived and received the first patent on what became the "1st and Ten" concept introduced on ESPN football telecasts in 1998, now widely used in network sportscasting. For more than 20 years, David was a Lecturer and Adjunct Professor at Cal Poly Pomona and instructed graduate and undergraduate students in electronics and computer sciences. At USC and Pepperdine, he teaches business-strategy formulation and market research to MBA students. He is past President of the California Chapter of the Strategic Leadership Forum — an international organization dedicated to fostering the art and discipline of strategic planning in business — and in 1999, along with Stan Abraham, co-founded the Association for Strategic Planning, for which he served as its first president during its first four years of existence. David presently consults to large corporations in marketing and business strategy. He received his Ph.D. in Engineering from USC where his dissertation focused on the development of semiconductor materials for flash-memory applications some 25 years before commercialization of the technology. His interests are varied and include video technology and movie-making, collecting motion-picture soundtracks, fitness, hiking, and golf. Jeffrey Dunn Biography President and CEO, Bolthouse Farms, a California based, fourth generation Company focused on providing consumers great tasting and healthy food and beverage products. Prior to joining Bolthouse Farms, Jeff was President and CEO of Ubiquity Brands, a rollup of several regional snack food businesses. Key achievements during his tenure include the overall restructuring of the business and the re-launch of the company's brand portfolio, resulting in the successful sale of Lincoln Snacks to ConAgra and the sale of Jay's to Snyder's of Hanover at the end of 2007. Jeff also spent twenty-two years in various roles within The Coca-Cola Company, most recently serving as President of Coca-Cola North America. Jeff also led the company's Latin American operations from 2001 thru 2003.
