  • At 5:41 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011, an EF5 tornado scouring a one (1) mile wide, six (6)mile long band of devastation descends on Joplin, Missouri. St. John’s Regional Medical Center, the 367-bed hospital, takes a direct hit resulting in irreparable damage to the building’s infrastructure, including generators and power distribution system. This presentation will describe the role of the CNO in disaster management and share lessons learned from Joplin. Exploring the value of disaster preparedness; the positive impact of co-workers leaping into action; the healthcare system, community, and national response in the immediate aftermath; and the immeasurable value of the electronic medical record will exemplify principles essential to disaster preparedness.

In this session a crosswalk between the FON recommendations and the AONE strategic plan and work products will be presented.

  • This session will emphasize two evidence-based models for nurse executive practice. The Adams Influence Model (AIM) defines the factors, attributes, and process of influence, and the Model of the Interrelationship of Leadership, Environments and Outcomes for Nurse Executives (MILE ONE), which highlights the application of these frameworks in nurse executive, policy, and nursing informatics settings. Content for this presentation was synthesized from narratives and studies spanning six years. Specific methods included directed content analysis of practice environment surveys, nurse executive conference survey analysis, content expert interviews, and literature reviews.
