What is Peds-21?
The AAP holds a premier symposium, Pediatrics for the 21st Century (Peds-21) one day before its National Conference&Exhibition (NCE). Peds-21 is designed to address emerging issues that will affect the practice of pediatric care in the 21st century. Each symposium focuses on a specific topic and features a keynote speaker of national or international stature. In 2009, the focus is on the health of children in foster care.
Objectives
Empower pediatricians to address the health and well-being needs of children and youth in foster care through:
• Promoting an understanding of a child’s journey through foster care through the eyes of the child or youth, foster and birth parents and the professionals caring for them.
• Providing information about the unique health needs of children and youth in foster care and managing their care from the viewpoint of the primary care pediatrician.
• Featuring the latest resources including the new Healthy Foster Care America Web site (www.aap.org/fostercare) containing the latest information for families, youth, communities, healthcare providers, and other professionals.
