NeoPREP® is a 7-day intensive review of neonatal-perinatal medicine that emphasizes the process of evidence-based clinical decision making and focuses on the scientific basis for the clinical practice of neonatology. The course is, also, a preparatory education program based on the content specifications outline developed by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) for the neonatal-perinatal subspecialty. The course content has been developed at an advanced level and is appropriate for individuals preparing for the ABP initial neonatal-perinatal subspecialty examination, as well as for individuals preparing for the examination required by the ABP for Part III of Maintenance of Certification™ (MOC). NeoPREP® emphasizes a learner-centered educational approach featuring lectures, interactive mini-lectures, question-and answer sessions, group case-based discussions, and mock review question sessions to provide balanced views of the more controversial issues in neonatal-perinatal medicine.

PREP®:CAP is an intensive review and update of child abuse pediatrics and is presented in two tracks. A four-and-one-half day intensive review is designed for those preparing for the American Board of Pediatrics Subspecialty Certifying Examination in Child Abuse Pediatrics or Maintenance of Certification™ (MOC) and for those who want the most vigorous educational experience. A second track intended for general pediatricians and other healthcare providers, two and one-half days in length, focuses primarily on abusive head trauma, child sexual abuse, and the courtroom experience.

PREP®:CAP is designed for all medical professionals who provide health care to children. A significant amount of content regarding many forms of child maltreatment is presented at the course, and ample opportunity for networking along the continuum of experience and disciplines is provided. This year’s course will also feature a number of "hot topics" allowing for discussion and collaboration on some of the most challenging issues faced by child abuse pediatricians and their medical colleagues.

What is Peds-21?

The AAP holds a premier symposium, Pediatrics for the 21st Century (Peds-21) one day before its National Conference&Exhibition (NCE). Peds-21 is designed to address emerging issues that will affect the practice of pediatric care in the 21st century. Each symposium focuses on a specific topic and features a keynote speaker of national or international stature. In 2009, the focus is on the health of children in foster care.

Objectives

Empower pediatricians to address the health and well-being needs of children and youth in foster care through:

• Promoting an understanding of a child’s journey through foster care through the eyes of the child or youth, foster
and birth parents and the professionals caring for them.

• Providing information about the unique health needs of children and youth in foster care and managing their care
from the viewpoint of the primary care pediatrician.

• Featuring the latest resources including the new Healthy Foster Care America Web site (www.aap.org/fostercare)
containing the latest information for families, youth, communities, healthcare providers, and other professionals.
