  • Archbishop Berlié was born in the city of Aguascalientes in México and ordained to the priesthood in 1966. He was appointed Bishop of Tijuana, Baja California in 1983. There he founded a seminary and helped a very good friend, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, to establish her Daughters of Charity in the diocese. He was appointed the fourth Archbishop of Mérida, Yucatán by Pope John Paul II on 15 March 1995. Among his wider service to the Church, he is a member of the Superior Council of the Pontifical University of Mexico and the Pontifical Mexican College in Rome.
  • Archbishop Berlié gave an outstanding presentation at last year's convention in Aguas de Lindoia, Brazil on some of the findings of the Fifth General Conference of the Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean (CELAM), attended by the Holy Father, and is back by popular demand.
  • Archbishop Berlié is a strong advocate of the role of the laity in the promotion of priestly vocations. He has been the Episcopal Adviser of Serra in México for more than twenty-eight years.

  • The host of this years' convention, the Most Reverend Elden Francis Curtiss, is widely recognized as an ardent supporter of Serra's lay apostolate for vocations. He was installed as Archbishop of Omaha on 25 June 1993. In May 2008, he celebrated three notable anniversaries: 50 years as a priest, 32 years as a bishop and 15 years as an archbishop.
  • Prior to his appointment as Archbishop of Omaha, he had served as Rector of Mount Angel Seminary in the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon, and as Bishop of Helena in Montana.
  • He has chaired the USCCB's Committee on Vocations and served as a member of its Committee on Priestly Formation.
  • Archbishop Curtiss served as Serra's seventh Episcopal Adviser from 1994-1999.

  • James Keating is the Director of Theological Formation in the Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF) at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska. Appointed by the Papal Nuncio to be Associate Professor of Moral and Spiritual Theology in the School of Theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio.
  • He served in that capacity from 1993-2006. He received his Ph.D. in Roman Catholic Theology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his Master's degree in Religious Studies from Fordham University in New York City.
  • Dr. Keating is the author of many books including Pure Heart, Clear Conscience: Catholic Moral Life, Crossing the Desert: Moral Conversion and Lent, and Listening for Truth: A Life of Prayers and Virtue.
  • He was ordained a deacon in 2001.

Keynote Speaker: Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan

  • Archbishop Dolan, whom the Holy Father appointed Archbishop of New York on 23 February 2009, will be the keynote speaker at this year's convention. A native of Missouri, Timothy Dolan was ordained on 19 June 1976. Father Dolan earned a Doctorate in American Church History from The Catholic University of America and later served as Secretary to the Apostolic Nuncio in Washington, D.C. He held the post of Vice Rector of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis from 1992-1994 which led to his appointment as Rector of The Pontifical North American College in Rome where he served from 1994-2001. Monsignor Dolan also taught at the Gregorian and Angelicum Universities during that time. He is the author of the widely acclaimed book: Priests for the Third Millenium.
  • After his Episcopal Ordination on 15 August 2001, he served as Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis, Missouri and later when he was installed as the tenth Archbishop of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In August 2008, Archbishop Dolan succeeded His Eminence Justin Cardinal Rigali, as Serra's ninth Episcopal Adviser.
